The abbey of San Fruttuoso in Capodimonte is a Catholic worship site located near Camogli in the terrain and marine park of Monte di Portofino.
Camogli, the "City of Thousand White Sailers", part of the metropolitan city of Genoa, in Liguria, is a typical seaside village with its marina and colorful palaces on the waterfront.

The abbey is dedicated to Saint Fruttuoso of Tarragona, bishop and saint Catalan of the third century, whose ashes are kept in the abbey, where they would be translated following the Arab invasion of the Iberian Peninsula.

The abbey can not be reached by any roadway but can only be accessed by sea or by two panoramic paths: one that descends from the above mountain of Portofino and the other that runs along the coast from the bay of Portofino. The abbey looks out onto the ancient bathing beach.

In 1951, he was filmed The Devil in Nunzio Malasomma's Convent with Gilberto Govi.

In its bay is the famous statue of the Christ of the Abyss, placed in 1954 on the seabed and restored in the nineties. Since 1983 the abbey is part of the architectural heritage of the Italian Environment Fund, thanks to the donation of the owners Frank and Orietta Pogson Doria Pamphilj. Periodically there are concerts of classical and light music and other initiatives promoted by the FAI.

In 2014, the Polygraphic Institute and State Mint coined coins worth 5 euros in silver for the Abbey of San Fruttuoso (Italy's Art Series)

Communication paths
The complex is reachable by a frequent sea-boat connection - from the nearest communal centers of the Ligurian Riviera, such as Camogli, Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, Chiavari, Lavagna and Sestri Levante. There is also a direct connection to Genoa.
Alternatively, you can take advantage of the panoramic naturalistic pathway - entering the Portofino Regional Natural Park - through wooded paths from Portofino Vetta or Portofino Mare, where a steep descent allows you to reach the bay in ninety minutes on both paths.
