shadow The shop, Barberia Giacalone Genoa

The shop, Barberia Giacalone, no more than ten square meters in the heart of the ancient city, between carugages and ancient palaces overlooking the harbor, is opened by Italo Giacalone, serving camels and sailors, in 1908 in a palace of 17th century.

It is renovated and decorated in Liberty style in 1922 by Vetreria Bottaro, the same that almost a century later will heal the restoration. The small jewel of elegance and sophistication is then managed by his son Italo, after which he disappeared and after a brief closing, he was restored and reopened in 1992 by the FAI - Italian Environment Fund which entrusts him to Tony Ferrante, a young barber of Sicilian origins, thanks to the craft of which today it is possible to retry the old pleasure of a shaved art.

The luminous environment is almost dazzling: the light bounces in a mirror game between the walls and the ceiling, dyed with emerald green, cobalt blue and yellow gold, the dominant colors of crystal panels colored by losanga motifs and crossed ogive fascias the local.
And then the classic white tiles, the oval mirrors over the original washbasins, the appliques and the central chandeliers.
A charming place that brings us back to the years and the atmosphere of the Belle Époque, as they tell us about the ever-popular original armchairs.
